Kumbhalgarh Fort
Kumbalgarh Fort is Situated in Kumbhalgarh,Rajasmand District near udaipur,Rajasthan India. It is a UNESCO World heritage Site. Kumbalgarh Fort built in 15th century by Rana Khambha. Kumbalgarh Fort is the secong largest fort in india after chittor Fort.

Kumbhalgarh in its present form was built by Rana Kumbha, who was the Rana of Mewar from the Sisodia Rajput clan. Rana Kumbha took the help of the famous architect of the time, "Madan". Rana Kumbha's Mewar kingdom stretched from Ranthambore to Gwalior and included vast expanses of ancient Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Rana Kumbha would have built 32 of them on his 84 forts, of which Kumbhalgarh is the largest and most elaborate.

Kumbhalgarh fort remained impregnable to the direct assault and only once fell against the forces of General Mansingh I of the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1576 after Mughal's victory at the Battle of Haldighati.

Ahmed Shah I of Gujarat attacked the fort in 1457, but found the effort useless. There was a local belief while the Banmata deity in the fort was protecting it and therefore it destroyed the temple. Mahmud Khalji attempted new attempts in 1458-159 and 1467, but this also proved useless. Akbar's general, Shabhbaz Khan, reportedly took control of the fort in 1576. But it was taken over by Maharana Pratap in 1585 through a guerrilla war. In n 1615, Mewar surrendered Kumbalgarh against the Mughal forces sent by Emperor Jahangir under the command of Prince Khurram. In 1818 an armed band of Sanyasins formed a garrison to protect the fort, but Tod convinces him and the fort was taken back by the British and returned to Udaipur State. The Maharanas of Mewar have made additions, but the original structure built by Maharana Kumbha remains. Residential buildings and temples are well preserved. The fort is also known to be the birthplace of Maha Rana Pratap.
