Jaipur, India's Pink City Print E-mail

Jaipur City PalaceThe Royal City of Jaipur basks in the luster of a rich heritage.

For a country with as long and glorious a history as India, Jaipur (the Pink City) is a relatively young city, founded in 1727. Despite its relative youth, Jaipur, is one of the single most beautiful and most visited cities in all of India. It is famous for its vibrant culture, gorgeous palaces, hilltop forts, beautiful lakes and friendly people.

Jaipur is an exemplar of fine urban planning, and even to this day is considered one of the most well-planned cities in the world.

Did You Know...
Several South Indian temples have musical stone pillars. The central parts of such pillars are chiseled into 7 to 16 bars which produce distinct notes similar to that of a xylophone, if tapped with a wooden mallet. What is significant is that the different bars are part of the same pillar.
